About Lisa Hollis
Our History
Lisa Hollis began her violin studies at the age of five with Suzuki teacher Ellie Albers LeRoux. She holds a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance with an emphasis in Suzuki Pedagogy from Northern Arizona University, where she studied with Dr. Louise Scott and Karin Hallberg.
A registered Suzuki teacher with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, Lisa has completed extensive Suzuki training in violin, viola, Suzuki Early Childhood Education, and Suzuki in the Schools.
Following graduate school, Lisa joined the faculty of the Bermuda School of Music, where she taught violin, viola, music theory, orchestra, and Kindermusik. During her eight years there, she helped expand the school's Suzuki program and led student performance tours throughout Bermuda and abroad. Her students were frequent performers and award recipients in the school's annual Students of Distinction competition.
Since moving to the Boston area in 2013, Lisa has been a member of the faculty of the Suzuki School of Newton, where she teaches violin, viola, Suzuki Early Childhood Education, and preschool music, and directs In Harmony, the school's touring string ensemble. She is also a violin instructor at the German International School Boston.
Lisa's students regularly participate in youth orchestras, chamber music programs, and community performances. Many have earned top scores and honors through the Royal Conservatory of Music examinations, and her students have performed with organizations including the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras, New England Conservatory youth ensembles, and the Rivers School Conservatory orchestras.
As a performer, Lisa has appeared with the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra and has performed alongside artists including Josh Groban, Smokey Robinson, Quincy Jones, John Legend, and Michael McDonald.
Lisa maintains a private studio in Boston and is passionate about helping students develop confidence, musical excellence, and a lifelong love of music. When she is not teaching or performing, she enjoys scuba diving and spending time with her cats, Maddie and Lulu.
Violin Lessons with Lisa Hollis
We believe that every child has the ability to learn and grow as a musician. Using the Suzuki approach, we help students develop a beautiful sound, strong technique, and confidence through listening, repetition, and positive encouragement. By working closely with both students and caregivers, we strive to create a supportive learning environment while adapting my teaching to each child’s individual needs and personality. My goal is not only to teach students to play the violin well, but to help them develop a genuine love of music that stays with them for life.
